Your Domain Names & Hosting - Day 2

Today's Glossary

"host" = the company that hosts your blog on their servers.

"server" = the big machine that stores all the data for people's

websites.

"hosting company" = the company that owns and runs the servers.

"domain" = the address where your website can be found. e.g BuzzProfits.com

Domain Names 101

You should now have a niche topic idea or two.  If you still

haven't found an exact idea, don't panic... you can come back to

it. Today we are going to show you how to get your very own domain

name, and how to get a host where you can store multiple websites.

Remember that it is important to take action as you read these

emails... otherwise, you will be at the end of the course and there

will be no momentum. So please take action.

If you try to do something and are still unsure, then hit the reply

button and myself or one of my team will aim to give further

assistance.

So, domain names...

The best way to do this is to look at three criteria:

*Length

*Catchiness

*Descriptiveness

Ideally you want to ensure that your domain is not too long, is

memorable and describes the topic.

So here are some examples of how NOT to do it.

 Domain Name Examples

*Length: e.g MySuperLongDomainNameExample.com is a terrible domain name, it is too long.

Note: If a domain is too long then people will not have the patience to

type it. So try and keep it under 20 characters.

*Catchiness: the key here is to find a name that is easy to

remember. Try saying your domain name out loud and see how it rolls

off the tongue.

*Descriptiveness:  The key here is to find a domain that explains

either the topic, or the benefit. E.g LearnToCook.com

Again, make a list of a few ideas, also ask friends to come up with

ideas.

For domain's I use GoDaddy, it is the largest domain registrar in

the world and that's for a reason! DotCom Blueprint users get 10%

off if you use the coupon code "cjsave10"

Hosting your Domain

You will need a host to store your website and data. We strongly

recommend to use HostGator, then you can use the coupon code

'buzzprofit' and you will receive $9.94 discount, every little

helps, so ensure you use that special code.

Connecting your Domain and Host

This part of the process is extremely simple, just login to your

new godaddy account and go to domains > My Domains and then find

your new domain name. Then click on the "nameservers" icon, and

change the custom nameservers to match those that you will have

received in your HostGator email...

They will look a little something like this:

NS1.HostGator.com

NS2.HostGator.com

You are now ready to install your website...

However, we recommend waiting at least 24 hours before attempting to install your website, as that is the time it takes for the domain nameservers to update.

So, as always, the next email will arrive in 48 hours, and will show you how to install

a blog onto your new domain in under 60 seconds (providing you are using HostGator

as your web host)

If you are not with HostGator, you can signup, or change to them, via this link: HostGator

coupon code: 'buzzprofit' (NOT 'buzzprofits')

Secret: Using HostGator will make the next step dramatically easier, and unless you are a programmer or highly experienced and technical webmaster, you WILL need to have the extra features that HostGator provide.
